Prof Maurizio Bragagni, ESQ, OBE
Chartered Director and Fellow Member of the Institute of Directors, Dr Maurizio Bragagni now exercises his roles in accordance with the IoD Code of Professional Conduct. Maurizio is keen to implement an appropriate governance structure within his organisation, accompanied by robust financial management and firm control of leadership and strategy. These are the competencies Maurizio brings to the Boards he participates in.
Maurizio is Chairman and CEO of Tratos Ltd, the manufacturing division of global cable maker Tratos Group, for which he has also served as a member of the board since 2000. Tratos is an innovative international cable producer with factories in the UK and Italy, offices on five continents, and customers worldwide, servicing the power, transport, shipping, communications, and oil and gas industries. With a turnover of over €200 million, it is one of the world’s largest independent cable manufacturers and is involved in many high-profile and technologically advanced projects across the globe.
Italian-born Maurizio is based in the UK and has played a vital role in building the family business into a multinational success story, including leading the globalisation of the company’s manufacturing capabilities. A British citizen, he holds a degree in Law from the University of Pisa and an MBA from Cass Business School in London. He has been responsible for exponential growth at the company, winning government funding and investing heavily in facilities, employee development and technology.
In addition to his successful business career, Maurizio has written several books on the importance of family business and sustainable strategy. He is a proud Institute for Family Business (IFB) member. This interest has led to his appointment as Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow of Management at the Bayes Business School, City University of London, where he concentrates his time on the study of sustainability strategy. He is also a Visiting Professor for the Institute of Management and Leadership at the University of Bolton, developing leadership in challenging sustainable strategy and studying private and public UK companies’ contribution to the C02 net zero emissions commitment.
With more than two decades of international business and presence in the five continents, Maurizio supports the UK Department for International Trade in establishing new agreements between the UK and other countries.
As Honorary Consul of San Marino to the UK, he is making an immense contribution to promoting and nurturing friendly relations between the UK and San Marino and sharpening his diplomatic and consular skills to the level of a global businessman.
In recognition of his services and achievements to the UK business community and abroad, Maurizio was awarded Knight of the Italian Republic (OMRI) for business services to Italy.
In his limited free time, Maurizio is a loyal member of the Naval & Military In & Out Club, a proud Freeman of the City of London. Maurizio is a founder and liveryman of the Company of Communicators and is involved in supporting charity initiatives. Maurizio launched his foundation, Esharelife, founded on the principle of giving back to society and with a sole mission: sharing life in the digital era. The charity, recognised by the UK Charity Commission, is giving hope to women and children in some of the world’s most deprived regions through access to sustainable education.
